ODE to PERSEPHONE

Shhhh...
Feel the timelessness
The empty space between chaos and grace
Just the name whispered makes a heart race...
Persephone

Its time to break free from mother, dear Persephone
Look at all these Godly suitors asking for your hand
Is it so bad you are the embodiment of Earth's fertility
The most beautiful Iron Queen in all the land?

Your torch brightens up the darkest labyrinth
The trees blossom and whither at your discretion
Oh my luminous dread queen of the underworld
Plato knows you touch all that is in motion.

Your name forbidden on the lips of men
The taste of pomegranites upon your tongue
As you were picking flowers Hades picked you as His
Yes, sweet it is to succumb to your dark Lord.

For you are his only rose that grows beneath the Earth
His love for you the only love within his heart
Your mother enraged turns nymphs to sirens
And in her sorrow turns all life to dust.

And meanwhile down in the darkest bellows
Your light and love cheat those meant to suffer
You soften the heart of the hardest power
As you smile at Hades and he draws you closer.

Oh Beezelbub took a break the day
You fell through quakes and tectonic plates
And the workload in Hell was lighter
Until Zeus sent down his prized and handsome fighter.

And again you were ripped asunder
From the world you had grown to know so well
By Hermes, your handsome one-time suitor
In the name of your lovely mother Demeter.

Has life not given you any choices at all
For those who love you throw you around like a rag doll?
How can you love them still and excuse their treasons
My lovely Persephone, sweet Queen of Seasons?
